/ July 28, 2010This is a VERY important message to Mac and Linux users out there:
This device is in NOT AT ALL COMPATIBLE WITH MACS,
and NOT AT ALL COMPATIBLE WITH MACHINES RUNNING LINUX.
It does NOT show up as a USB Mass Storage device when plugged into a Mac on 10.5.8, and… that’s pretty much where my experience with the device ends. There is no Mac driver, and after plugging this thing in and having done about an hour of research now, there is no solution for me to get the data off of this device but to plug it into a Windows box and use the provided software to access the device. I don’t like that solution because I don’t have a Windows box, and having one is really more effort than it’s worth in the first place.
After spending $70 in a local store to pick this up before an important meeting I need to be recording in the morning… I’m a bit upset that this isn’t going to be working out for me. It looks like I’ll have to return this to the store and find another local solution in the morning before my meeting, and I’m not happy about that.

/ July 28, 2010As a recorder it is easy to use & works fine. In order to transfer files you must have windows to install the software. The recorder does not even show up on your computer when you plug in the USB unless you have the software installed.
If you have a mac, you are out of luck. I even use a crossover programs to simulate windows so I can install windows only software (on the rare occasion I need that crap) and this software could still not be installed.
Bottom line is, you will not be able to access the files on the recorder unless you use their software to do it.
I can’t believe they would even make a device that is not OS X compatible nowadays. Get with it sony!

/ July 29, 2010Long story short. While it has a usb port, it does not go into mass storage mode. So you need the proprietary software on the CD to read your audio from it. There is no linux version of this software.
I did not try to get the software running under wine or an emulator.
Other than that, seems to work fine.

/ July 29, 2010I bought this about 6 months ago. The recorder has great audio specs and lives up to the ‘Sony” name.
But when downloading to a PC it had some issues:
1. NO LINUX support whatsoever!!! (Not recognized as a USB Mass Storage)
2. When downloading to Windows XP, it is PAINFULLY slow…
I am trying a new version of the Digital Voice Editor software today…
